We’re trying to have a professional, yet creative name (tough, no?). We want to also focus on youthfulness, creativity, growth, .etc, so we thought green might be a nice color to base our identity on.

A lot of this also depends on whether the domain name is available or not, so if the actual short name _____.com is taken, something like _____ interactive.com, _____creative.com, _____design.com, would also work. We also don’t want to be completely limited to one subject with our name, because we may want to expand to website hosting and print design.

If anyone has any ideas, that would be really helpful!

Things like these are never easy, but I shall try my best.

greenteractive – combines green and interactive, as for a logo, you could find some way of distinguishing the single ‘e’ from the rest of the name. Flows with the color scheme, but it’s limited to web or digital media.

corexposure – playing with the wording, that design is centered around a core of ideas, exposing your clients to the potential possibilities and or solutions.

That’s all I can think of at this point. Hopefully that may spawn several more ideas for you. When I’m naming something though, primarily a website, I usually try to refrain from using words like “interactive, creative, or design” just because they may seem a little redundant or overused, unless you really don’t have any other ideas, but that’s just my take on it. A website for people from my school to rate “hot or not” (basically). They could scroll through the people, and give each one a “thumbs up” or a “thumbs down” as they go, but only able to use one vote per person per day. I would also want to create a page listing the people, in order from most votes to least.

For any website that you build on the web you will need to use HTML. However, for the type of application you are talking about, you would need some sort of system (preferrably a database) that will store each persons information (rating, etc). Then you would need to use a server side language to fetch the information from the database and format it for display in the HTML pages.

I am a .NET guy myself, so learning ASP.Net would be a good choice for this site. There are other options available though, such as PHP and Ruby

Visual Basic (.NET) is an easy language to pick up if you are a beginner, but I recommend using C# (.NET) as the server side language. SQL Server 2005/2008 are nice database systems that are fairly simple to use.

So, in conclusion…

Yes, you would need to learn HTML, but you also need to learn some additional skills, such as

CSS, SQL, C# / VB.NET

with all of this comes other areas that you’ll need to learn, sql injection, dependency injection etc, just to secure the site. There may be a lot more work involved in creating such a site than what one might think at first glance. Don’t let this discourage you though, as all of these things can be learned with some good time and dedication.

I checked out the website/project you were talking about and I regret saying that I also am not a member :/

I DID, however, look up a different site/way to create your own wand. I cited the site in the source area. It may not be the same – but it seems like a pretty epic description.

Anyways, if you don’t like the way that that turns out, I made my own wand out of a chopstick[: It wasn’t one of those free chopsticks you get when you eat out at a restaurant (Although I’m sure you can make that work) but I found it in my kitchen drawer ^.^ You my be able to find something, as well.

You can decorate, carve, sand, paint, and/or add on a bit more to it. Get creative !

I would also recommend searching for homemade wands on YouTube – there are some fascinating things on there It may help you spark your imagination/find a how-to guide.

HTML or Flash is the best for web developers.

Considering that all websites are written in HTML or Flash, but mainly both.

Visual Web Developer is the best thing to learn on.

play around with flash though. It will make any website look very awesome.

If you are suggested to Java don’t take it. Java is useless and unless you have lots of experience java just looks bad and unprofessional.

Can anyone please tell me where I should start? I have quite a bit of Photoshop experience and a very basic understanding of Flash. I do own Flash and have a book and CD with tutorials. Is Flash the way to go or should I start with a class that teaches website design in general? Is Flash even worth it as I have heard there are new similar programs? Do I even need a class? Are tutorials enough? Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated.

Credentials and portfolios are paramount. There will always be things you will need guidance and help with that a tutorial and CD can’t give you and the hands-on experience you gain in a formal setting will provide not just the piece of paper (whether certification or degree) but also the knowledge needed. Most community colleges today are set up for this type of education at a reasonable (if not outright cheap) price and have class schedules that are tailored to fit the schedule of a family/working person (night and Saturday, online classes, etc.).

The folks teaching the classes also tend to be professionals in the area and are a valuable source for cutting edge info, trends and contacts – things you can’t get from books.
